 Easter 2001 saw a very exciting ‘first’ for The Slade Centre. The Recent Graduates exhibition showcased 35 promising artists and makers who graduated from art colleges around the UK in 2000.

For the third year, the Recent Graduates exhibition was curated by the staff and trustees of the New Ashgate Gallery in Farnham, Surrey who spent a considerable amount of time visiting degree shows up and down the country, and selecting  ‘fine’ and ‘applied’  artists to take part in this show. Printmakers, jewellers, potters, furniture makers and others were featured.

Recent Graduates was a touring exhibition which came to Gillingham, for the first time in 2001, after periods in Farnham and the Arts Centre in Cranleigh. It offered a rare opportunity to see a collection of some of the very best new work around, and  to buy from some of the great names of the future.
